The Student Services Department is maintained for the benefit of applicants, students, and graduates to provide assistance in program selection, enrollment information, supportive services, and financial aid.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The minimum age for enrollment is seventeen (if the applicant has a high school diploma or GED), or eighteen and legally out of high school. The enrollment of high school students requires a special agreement between the Tennessee Board of Regents, the local board of education, and The Tennessee Technology Center at Athens.
Prospective students are urged to apply at any time. Steps in making application are as follows:
- Contact TTCA to obtain information and an application form. We also encourage a prospective student to apply for financial aid at the same time.
- Complete application and file it with the Center’s Student Services Department.
- Discuss primary occupational objectives with the counselor.
- If there is an opening in the chosen program, enrollment can be immediate. If there is not an opening, the applicant is placed on a waiting list and selected for enrollment by application date as openings occur. Must have all paperwork completed. (Once an applicant has been notified that an opening exists and he/she does not enroll, his/her application is discarded.)
- Each student enrolling on a full-time basis will undergo the Center’s basis skills assessment program and if found to be deficient in reading, writing, math, or study skills, will attend the Center’s basic skills program as a part of his/her instructional day.
During Student Service’s initial meeting with potential students the staff will assist applicants in selecting an area of training that fits the student’s needs and employment goals. After the enrollment process in complete students can continue receiving assistance with problems that arise during enrollment. Individual counseling services are available to students experiencing personal, academic, attitudinal, or financial problems.
ORIENTATION
The Student Services Department provides orientation for new students during registration to inform each student of all phases of school life. Orientation includes the information contained within the Student Handbook about school regulations and requirements. All enrollees are required to attend orientation before admittance to classes.
Student Services personnel and the program instructor will assist the student in finding employment upon completion of training. Follow-up forms are sent to former students at various times of the year in order to help the Center monitor student employment, which is very important to the Technology Center.
EXPENSES
Students must provide the following items as required for their chosen area of training.
The current Maintenance and Technology fee. Fees are subject to change without notice each September, or any time the governing board directs.
Textbooks, workbooks, paper, pencils, uniforms, safety glasses and other supplies.
STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE
At the time of registration, each student will be furnished information regarding the purchase of student accident insurance through a carrier approved by the Tennessee Board of Regents. All students are encouraged to purchase this insurance, especially those who will be working in shop situations and will be exposed to potentially dangerous materials and equipment.
